All of us have done a classic city walking tour at some point in our lives. You walk a route along the most famous sights in town and read up on some history and extra background information from a "Multi Language" banner. You could also obtain the details from your Travel Guide. But this, OMG! Seven Senses Tour, takes your average walking tour to a whole other level.

The OMG! Seven Senses Tour lets you discover Ghent through the eyes of the great Master Jan van Eyck, who is famous for his Altarpiece in Ghent. The OMG! Seven Senses Tour fits perfectly with this years' city theme of "OMG! van Eyck was here"

What are these Seven senses?

We all know the classic senses of the smell, touch, taste, hearing and sight according to Aristoteles. But during this tour you will also discover "Movement" and "Mystic"

We start our tour at the "Van Eyck Shop" located beneath the Belfort Tower. We received a map and walked to our first sight the "Achtersikkel" in the Biezekapelstraat. We were greeted by a tour guide, who gave us some information about the Achtersikkel and its history. We then climbed the Tower, which not only gave us an amazing view, but also was equipped with an audio setup playing mystic sounds from the past.

We then continued our walk through Ghent, spotting some local artwork by various artists. For example these graffiti works in the Werregarenstraat or better known as the "Graffiti street". We then made a coffee stop near the Sint Jacobskerk" before heading towards the Castle of the Counts.

We then managed to arrive at the docking station for the boat trip. We were given a special brewed beer for the "OMG! Van Eyck was here" theme. Named OMG!Beer, it was a delight for our taste senses, especially on a hot summer day. The beer is also for sale at the Van Eyck shop.

Our boat set sail and get our movement sense going. We were off to a great remainder of this tour and encountered a lot of friendly canal tourists on the way. Our captain gave us more information about specific buildings and we were greeted again by a lot of artworks during our cruise on the Leie. At the end we entered the "Mystic" tunnel were a lot of artworks from Jan Van Eyck were displayed in a very spectacular way.

We are near the end of our OMG! Seven Senses Tour at the "Duivelsteen" Where we we greeted by a guide, who explained to us the history and relationship with Van Eyck of the Duivelsteen. She also supplied us with two parfums based on the Altarpiece of Van Eyck. The scent of God and Landscape. We both witnessed how the smell of each parfum developed in a short moment of time. Ultimately we decided the Landscape parfum was the better one for us. After the explanation we explored the Duivelsteen further and enjoyed the views.

We headed back to the Van Eyck Shop where we were gifted the "Van Eyckskes". A specially baked cookie from "Compaan" with Fennel and Gingerbread spices. Also for sale in the Van Eyck shop. I enjoyed them with a beer after the tour.
