Hallstatt is one of the most popular villages with tourists in Austria. Hallstatt is a small village with barely 800 official residents, yet it Hallstatt has a lot to offer. It is home to the salt mine in World, has beautiful houses along the waterfront and you can enjoy beautiful views of the Skywalk.

We traveled by car to Hallstatt and there are several parking spots outside the village. Prices are starting around 7 euro depending on how long you stay. It's about a 10 minute walk to the village. We walked passed the Badeinsel Hallstatt, which literary means Swimming Island Hallstatt. It is a small island where people are allowed to swim in the lake, it also offers a great view on Hallstatt. We proceeded to the entrance of Hallstatt, it is also the bus parking and starting point of the tour boats. There are a few benches where you can sit and look at the village. I decided to make a few photos including a long exposure shot of Hallstatt before heading further into Hallstatt.

We decided to take a boat around the lake of Hallstatt aka the Hallstätter See and visit several villages around the lake. I found the boat trip to be worth the price of 13euro's. You get to see a different perspective on Hallstatt.

After the boat trip we decided it was time to head into the village. Hallstatt's charming Marktet square or Marktplatz is surrounded by traditional houses and their balconies are beautifully decorated with flowers. The shops and terraced cafés line the square, and a highlight is the elegant Holy Trinity statue.

We also visited 2 churches in Hallstatt, the Evangelische Pfarrkirche and Evangelische Pfarrkirche Mariä Himmelfahrt. Located directly in the centre of Hallstatt is the Pfarrkirche, which was built as a house of prayer on the 30th October 1785. The present sacred building dates from 1859 to 1863 and replaced the prayer house from 1785.
The Evangelische Pfarrkirche Mariä , also called Maria am Berg, is the Roman Catholic parish church of the market town of Hallstatt in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut. The first Catholic church was built in 1150 at the latest. The tower of this is still preserved. In 1320 the second, enlarged Romanesque church was consecrated by Auxiliary Bishop Hermann von Passau as Maria-Hilf Church. The construction of today's church on the steep rock began in the late Gothic period. The existing church interior was finished in 1505. After the great fire in 1750, the Romanesque tower was given a baroque helmet

Hallstatt is known for its salt production that dates back to prehistoric times. The Saltmine in Hallstatt is the oldest salt mine in the world. You can take the cable car up the mountain to visit the salt mine and the Hallstatt Skywalk. The salt mine tickets are 36euro per person, but worth the price. The guided tour takes you deep in to the mine and shows you how the salt was mined the past and how it is mined today. The Skywalk gives you an amazing view over the Hallstatt and the Hallstätter lake. It is the perfect selfie spot ;)

I stayed out late in order to enjoy the evening light in Hallstatt and took some scenic pictures before ending my Hallstatt adventure.
